The Saturday that just passed (it was my birthday) and the last half day workshop in Australia and my last one (at least for 2017) will be in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for my Middle East and South Asian Tour (because I’m pivoting in 2018 😁).

Here’s the deal, I purposely had my last half day workshop in Australia fall on my birthday  – in plain gratitude to God for the honour and blessing of doing what I love most  – teaching and training.

To think, me, born on the war torn side of the world (Afghanistan) a former refugee, gets a shot of doing what I do  – I don’t take it for granted, not for a bloomin blink of an eye.

Here’s why I’m sharing that with you…

Your story matters

Not because you lack self-esteem and I’m trying to get you “think all positive about yourself”…but because it matters to your audience -whether its an audience of 1 (at an interview or many e.g speaking to a public audience).

If you’ve never heard me speak before, what I shared above, (that whole paragraph) was a tiny snippet of my story and I’m sharing it with you because although you weren’t a refugee or born in Afghanistan  – you do have your own story, and when you share it, I get to see more of you.

Just as you just saw more of me, that you ordinarily wouldn’t ever know.

We, your audience, see you stand up and standout through your story.

You can outsource anything… but you can’t outsource your voice that gives volume to your story…

You can outsource anything…but you can’t outsource your passion and your unique voice that gives volume to your passion. Which is why its important for you to learn.

I’m wide awake aware that when I share my story, that there are people who will have negative opinions on refugees (but by sharing that  – I attract people who ‘get me’ and those who don’t will distance themselves from my work, my passion, my mission.

It’s a superb, authentic, real and raw way for people to pre-qualify themselves for working you.

Like I said when I speak  – (the audiences I speak to) haven’t been through refugee status -but I can tell you the same reason some don’t want to work with me IS the same reason others are attracted to my work… people seek me out because when they work with me it’s a no B.S  zone – and that’s what appeals.

The same is true for your story. You will attract who you are.

BUT

But you need to tell your story based on your POV (point of view) – not start from the day you started working or waffle – it has to build rapport  and you need to be able to tell it anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes. – depending on how much time you have to speak.

It’s your primary story that’s the bedrock of why you do what you do (your passion) if you want to create a movement and monetise your mission.

But I don’t have an exciting story to tell about my life…”

Clients tell me that they don’t think their story is exciting, or good enough or fill in the blank……..of what you feel your story needs to be.

Your story (although its about you) you’re not telling it for you – you’re telling it to open your audience to who you are as a person (so it needs to be audience – centric) – because that’s ultimately who they’re going to work with  – which is why it doesn’t need to be a certain flavour of exciting  – it only NEEDS to be part of your story, the real deal about you.

You’ve got to get good at telling your story (its one of facets of connection that I teach at my retreats on how to connect with your audience and to create a movement and monetise your mission with that story)

“SO, HOW do I tell my story…?”

I shot a Behind The Scenes (BTS) video (at my Abu Dhabi workshop), inspired by the different business and passions people wanted to pursue in our 1:1’s and so I cut this video off the cuff (hence behind the scenes) that explains HOW to tell your story to communicate YOU and create sales.

How to Tell Your Story To Communicate Your Passion, Create Sales

(I’ve pinned the video to the top of the page)

It’s is one of the fundamental ways you’ll learn to un-box your gift, by telling your story.

With Passion,

Rita 🙂
