Last year I conducted a research project and researched 20 people around the world who had monetised their mission – you know those who were out of 9-5 job and who were actually doing what they loved and not just getting by – BUT making a huge difference.
The Secret
You know how the movie and the book “The Secret” took off and the law of attraction has become part of popular culture BUT… here’s what you don’t know about “The Secret”.
Marie Diamond who is featured in the movie The Secret, I interviewed her as part of my Monetise Your Mission research series and she shared with me and those who tuned in (because I broadcasted these interviews) that The Secret flopped on first launch (that’s my surprise face I captured for you below, because I assumed it was an automatic success).
The Brains Behind It ALL
Rhonda Byrne the inspiration/producer behind the whole concept of The Secret, did everything to get her passion (this message of The Secret) into the market but it wasn’t going anywhere, she couldn’t get attraction for it.
Now Marie is a Feng Shui expert and thats what her expertise is in the movie.
When Rhonda told Marie of how bad things were going with the movie – Marie offered to work with Rhonda and help her via a Feng Shui mentoring/ coaching perspective ……and guess what?
Long story short…it worked….Marie shared with me that this is THE secret behind “The Secret”, and then it became this tsunami in popular culture where quotes you read on Instagram and Facebook speak to the law of attraction popularised by this movie – because it finally was able to be monetised and gain mass attraction.
The lessons
Get out of your routine
Marie said to me Rhonda had depleted ALL her resources (like the little money she had left because it went all it production) but the money that she did have left she paid Marie to work through what was holding her back, because we’re so close to our own blocks we can’t see what the hold up is and once Rhonda was able to, see the mindset routine that was holding her back ..then came the UBER success of The Secret….Heck…even the secret needed a guide/ coach/ mentor.
Be coachABLE
With my coach last year I did EVERYTHING she told me to do, Im talking waking up at 3am to take her calls, jumping on flights to meet with her face to face on the other side of the world, started running to take myself on mentally
Did I want to…Of course NOT, it was inconvenient, it took up time, I was uncomfortable – but nothing was going to ever grow from my comfort zone.
SO when you have a coach DO what the coach/ mentor tells you…..otherwise WHY did you hire someone to help you when you won’t take the help?
Collaborate not create conflict – you’ll get much more from the mentor/coach rather than moving 3 steps forward and 4 steps back. Its not fulfilling when you stop or stall on collaborating.
Rhonda took the Feng Shui coaching from Marie, didn’t question it, didn’t fight it, just did it, despite it being weird, strange, uncomfortable etc. and the results (THE Secret) is on your bookshelf and most of the motivational videos you’ve seen on youtube is inspired by what once was just a mere passionate idea of Rhonda Byrne.
If you’re looking to sell your idea/ product/ service become a buyer.
a.k.a BE the client / manager / partner YOU want to attract
Rhonda needed to monetise this movie “The Secret” – otherwise it was going to end up as a very expensive hobby.
She bought the services of one of her interviewees in the movie (Marie Diamond)- because she had to get past the block – (she had tried getting past it on her own and wasn’t making progress at the pace she wanted) AND she expected others (people, the market) to purchase her book and/or the movie, so she had to do what she expected others to do…be a buyer., take action with the informaiton..right?
Be the client you want to attract.
